Could you please make sure that all donated items are in good, clean condition, and are suitable for re-use.

DONATIONS WE CAN’T ACCEPT

There are some items we cannot sell due to:

  • SAFETY REASONS; HYGIENE REASONS; LEGAL REASONS; WELLBEING REASONS; UNDESIRABILITY REASONS

ITEMS WE CAN’T SELL

Appliances and equipment:

  • Any mains electrical appliance;
  • Computer hard drives;
  • Adult or children’s bicycles;
  • All types of protective headgear (cycle helmets, motorbike helmets, riding hats, hard hats);
  • Wheelchairs, wheeled walkers, mobility scooters.

Medical and cosmetic items:

  • Cosmetics and scents: We can accept new, unused cosmetics, aftershaves and perfumes if they remain sealed in their original packaging.
  • We do not sell any form of drugs or medicines, prescription or otherwise.
  • Earrings and jewellery for pierced ears or any other pierced body parts are not sold unless new in original packaging.
  • Prescription glasses. We only sell off-the-shelf ‘ready-readers’ if new or good condition.

Weapons and realistic toy weapons:

  • Pointed objects that can be used as weapons such as butcher’s knives, flick/pen knives, sports knives, swords, daggers and axes.
  • Please note, knives, blades or sharply pointed items will not be sold to under 18s.
  • This includes any type of knife, blade, razor blade or sharp point that could cause injury. (This excludes scissors.)
  • Flammable items such as firelighters and barbeque lighting tools;
  • Solvents and solvent-based products.

Multimedia:

  • Any goods that infringe copyright law includes pirate DVDs and counterfeit CDs. These can be recognised by the colour of the disc, hologram labelling or poor packaging;
  • Any Pornographic publications, DVDs and videos classified as R18;
  • Any DVDs and videos not legally classified by the British Board of Film Classification including DVDs missing classification labels.
  • Please note, any films or computer games rated 12, 15 or 18 cannot be sold to anyone underage. Over 18 films must be kept on high shelves.

Children’s items:

  • Toys without the CE mark; children’s bicycles or any sort of protective gear (see above);
  • Inflatable toys for use in water;
  • Skateboards or skates;
  • Children’s second-hand shoes except Wellington boots, jellies and ‘baby’ shoes. Only children’s unworn ‘second-hand’ shoes can be sold because wear can affect the fit of the shoe.
  • Children’s garments with drawstring hoods or removable small parts or belts or sashes which could become trapped;
  • Cots, cribs or Moses baskets or mattresses or cot bumper sets;
  • Children’s car seats or booster seats;
  • Used sterilisers or baby monitors; baby walking frames, door bouncers, baby slings; child safety gates; nursery furniture that contains upholstery.

Clothing

  • Please note all clothing has to be labelled with the type of fibre it is made from in descending order of content and the percentage each fibre makes up of the whole garment.
  • Nightwear without flammable warning labels cannot be sold. This includes children’s and adults’ nightdresses, pyjamas, dressing gowns and bathrobes.
  • Dressing-up clothes without flammable warning labels cannot be sold – As a church-based enterprise we are sorry but we do not sell Hallowe’en dressing-up or other related Hallowe’en items.

Consumables

  • Alcohol; tobacco products; electronic cigarettes, vaporizers and their accessories; foodstuffs of any sort.

Animal products

  • Items made of fur; items made of ivory; items made of bone; turtle or tortoiseshell items; items made from endangered species.

Furniture

  • We have only limited storage space and therefore, do not sell any pieces of furniture.

Mattresses, pillows, quilts/duvets are not sold

  • We do sell duvet covers and pillowcases in good, clean condition.

Soft furnishings e.g. cushions – Must have a label stating ‘CARELESSNESS CAUSES FIRE’.

If you are unsure what items to donate, please ring the Centre Manager first, before bringing items to the Centre.
